Mini Art School #4

Assignment 1: MMP Storyboard

For this task, I created the slides for my storyboard in powerpoint, saved them as images, and imported them below.  I am creating a website to house all of the curricular materials, activities, and resources for a unit on persuasive techniques.

Assignment #2: 60-second video

For this assignment I decided to do a 'how-to' video.  I used the steps for creating stop-motion animation explained in DIY media, and had a lot of fun doing it!  I set up a tripod with my camera - first in front of the counter (to show the prep steps), then in front of the oven, then in front of the camera again.  I recruited my husband to take the pictures, and he was rewarded with a nice hot pizza, straight from the oven!  I uploaded two videos below - one version has music, the other doesn't.  I couldn't decide which one I like better.  The one with the music feels like it moves faster, but I'm not sure if the music becomes a distraction.  I'd appreciate your thoughts!

  1. Hi Ellen-

I really like your 'how to' video for making a pizza. Having done that myself, I cannot help but smile...it looks delicious! Artistically I think the stop motion was very effective. I particularly enjoyed the pepperoni additions without the hand. At first it had me wondering how they got there! I think the music works. It seems like a faster and more exciting process....what if you were to make a version with an italian themed song playing in the background?

Additionally, I find your storyboard clear and concise. It is evident how you are going to create and introduce your website to the students.

  2. Hi Ellen,

Great job. I really like that you experimented with stop motion. It really worked well! I agree with Danielle that I like the music better, because it gives it a more exciting feel- like you are working up to the pizza (which looks delicious, by the way).

The plan for your website is very clear. I look forward to seeing how it turns out.

  3. Hi Ellen,

I'm with all of your colleagues on this one, I thoroughly enjoyed the musical version. I think you did an awesome job with the stop motion technique. I actually laughed out loud during the pepperoni part. Apparently I wasn't the only one who enjoyed that particular aspect of the video! I wonder how it would be if you had "That's Amore" or something to that effect playing in the background as Danielle suggested. I really liked the music you selected though - it was in sync with the preparation of the pizza, and worked well with the theme of the video. The pizza looked very yummy - I hope you and Chris enjoyed it!

Your storyboard was well done! You laid out everything in a clear and concise manner. The details incorporating theoretical concepts and ideas addressed in this course (ADDIE, design) were a really nice touch! You picked some really nice images to present your storyboard with.

    Well done!

  4. Hi Ellen,
I really like both versions, but the one with the music is definitely my favorite. I agree with Danielle about the pepperoni! The stop motion looks so professional!

In reference to your storyboard for your MMP, I hope you don't mind, I'd like to copy your steps 11 and 12 for my project. I hadn't thought of conducting a user test during this course, but think it would be really useful.
